Franchise Notes

In Dallas, Kevin Sherrington wrote “the best” GM in Dallas, Jim Nill of the Stars, signed a two-year contract extension Tuesday, and the “only complaint here” is why owner Tom Gaglardi “took so long to tie up” Nill in the first place. On top of “holding the title as the game’s best GM,” Nill “might be the most-liked GM in hockey.” Gaglardi can “only pray that Nill wants to remain on the job well past his new deal,” which expires in 2028 (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 3/31).

FACING FINES: In Portland, Joe Freeman noted the NBA announced Wednesday that it has fined the Trail Blazers “six figures and suspended two members of the front office for a rules infraction related to the team’s predraft interaction with” C Yang Hansen. Assistant GMs Sergi Oliva and Mike Schmitz have been “suspended for two weeks without pay and the Blazers have been fined $100,000 as a result of the violation.” The team says that it “self-reported” (Portland OREGONIAN, 4/1).
