USA TODAY’s Meghan Hall noted the Mystics have “ended their relationship” with GM Jamila Wideman on the first day of WNBA free agency. The Mystics on Monday parted ways with Wideman over “strategic differences.” Wideman began her tenure with the Mystics in December 2024 after six years in the NBA league office. Mystics coach Sydney Johnson will “assume control of basketball operations with support from existing Mystics staff” (USA TODAY, 4/6).
GAINING EXPOSURE: On Long Island, Tess Ferguson noted Long Island Univ., the Islanders and UBS Arena unveiled a five-year partnership on Monday with the “goal of elevating the growth and exposure of hockey in the region.” LIU is the only D-I men’s and women’s hockey program in the Long Island and N.Y. area and, in collaboration with the Islanders, hopes to “expand opportunities and connections while bringing attention to Long Island as a hockey destination” (NEWSDAY, 4/6).
