In Seattle, Adam Jude wrote it has “been a rapid rise to the broadcast booth” for former MLBer Ryon Healy, who “will wrap up his initial six-game trial run” as a color analyst on Mariners TV on Wednesday, working alongside play-by-play voice Aaron Goldsmith. SiriusXM MLB Network Radio hired Healy as an analyst last season, and during the Mariners’ playoff run, he “began doing regular spots locally on KJR Sports Radio.” That “drew the attention” of Mariners execs and “led to his extended audition as an in-game analyst this season.” Healy is “scheduled to be back on air in late May/early June” when the Mariners begin a six-day homestand against the D-backs and Mets (SEATTLE TIMES, 4/21).
CALLED UP: GOLFWEEK’s Beth Ann Nichols noted NBC reporter Cara Banks has “been named the lead play-by-play voice” for the network’s LPGA coverage -- starting with this week’s Chevron Championship. This marks Banks’ “first time calling the Chevron,” though she worked in the play-by-play role “a number of times last season.” She will be joined by analysts Morgan Pressel, Tom Abbott and Paige Mackenzie. NBC’s Jim Mackay and Emilia Doran will “provide on-course reporting,” while reporter Amy Rogers “conducts interviews” (GOLFWEEK, 4/21).
