THE ATHLETIC’s Dan Pompei profiled former NFLer and sports agent TOM CONDON, who is dealing with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, a disorder that causes “excess spinal fluid to build up in the skull, putting pressure on the brain.” A shunt implant has “helped drain excess fluid” from Condon’s head but has not been a cure-all. Condon during his career as an agent represented 79 former NFL first-rounders. As a labor leader, he helped resolve the 1982 strike, then became president of the NFLPA. However, in June 2022, he “quietly slid out a side exit” and “stepped back into an advisory role at CAA and phased out.” Though balance is an issue, Condon “works out daily in his extensive home gym -- he rides a stationary bike, walks on an elliptical trainer, lifts weights” (THE ATHLETIC, 5/19).
LEGAL CORNER: Vikings DC BRIAN FLORES’ lawsuit against the NFL “intensified this week” after court filings revealed that his legal team has “served subpoenas to 25 NFL teams and served more than 1,000 discovery requests in an attempt to obtain leaguewide hiring records and communications related to discrimination claims.” It did not identify which 25 teams were subpoenaed. The next few months will “center around whether Flores’ claims are strong enough to proceed,” and if the case survives, it could “lead to the discovery of NFL hiring practices across the league” (ESPN.com, 5/19).
NAMES: Rapper FLAVOR FLAV’s “She’s Got Game” celebratory weekend was officially greenlit by Clark County in a unanimous vote on Tuesday. The procession will begin on July 16 at 8pm PT at the Bellagio hotel, then continue south on the Las Vegas Strip and end at Toshiba Plaza. She’s Got Game, LLC, is also “working with MGM Resorts to create a full itinerary of events” for what Flavor Flav is calling “SHE Weekend,” from July 16-19 (USA TODAY, 5/19)….Galaxy F JOSEPH PAINTSIL is hopeful to join the Ghana national team for the FIFA World Cup. Making the team would help Paintsil, who founded a residential soccer academy in Ghana last summer, by “significantly raising” his profile, opening the door to more funding and allowing him to expand the project. For the time being, Paintsil is “funding much of the academy’s work on his” $4.5M salary with the Galaxy, although Herbalife, the team’s longtime shirt sponsor, is “helping with a sports nutrition program” (L.A. TIMES, 5/19).
