Navy AD Michael Kelly is “moving swiftly to implement” multiple facilities projects and is “confident he’ll secure the funding needed to complete them,” according to Bill Wagner of the Annapolis CAPITAL GAZETTE. In April, Kelly oversaw the official groundbreaking for the $30M Navy Lacrosse Center slated to open during the 2028-29 academic year. One month later, Navy announced a $5M renovation of Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium, expected to be completed before the baseball home opener in 2027. Kelly’s stewardship of Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium is “off to a strong start with the south end zone renovation project, which will add five new hospitality spaces.” That project, which has “been underway for many months now,” has a $7.5M price tag and will be unveiled before the football home opener on Sept. 5. Kelly said that construction of the Bruce and Bernardine Lakefield Pavilion in the north end zone of the stadium would “begin after the 2026 football season with the goal of opening in 2029.” Along with the stadium renovations, Kelly said that he “intends to move forward with building an indoor facility primarily to serve the football program.” He added that they are “close to moving forward with the conceptual and design work for the new indoor facility.” Kelly acknowledged that “more funding is needed to bring all the aforementioned projects to completion.” Wagner notes Kelly has “spent his first year traveling around the country to cultivate potential private donors and corporate gifts” (Annapolis CAPITAL GAZETTE, 5/27).
