Stories worth your time:

  • This New York Times investigation under the headline “How Prediction Markets and Crypto Firms Steamrolled the CFTC” is a must-read for anyone following the agency charged with policing the sports event contracts offered by Kalshi, Polymarket and just about every sportsbook and gray-market pick ’em platform in the country. Nothing substantive related directly to sports, but we can help you make the connection.
  • A breezier read on the “sharps” who are killing it on Kalshi and Poly comes from The New York Times Magazine. Again, not much on sports, but lots that should get you thinking about a “trading” culture that rewards those who ferret out information (think injuries, not tendencies).
  • One more for the “not sports, but gets you thinking” column: News that a Google engineer was busted for insider trading after making $1.2 million betting on search results using the company’s internal count.
  • Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta has a $17.6 billion deal to buy Caesars.
  • Last week’s Senate committee hearing on prediction markets was a pretty good watch. Spoiler alert: You’re not the only one who thinks its betting. If you’d prefer a story, head here.
