In Chicago, Jeff Agrest noted broadcast voice Jason Benetti, who is joining NBC’s “Sunday Night Baseball,” is “fond of NBC,” for which he left Fox with a couple of months still on his contract. He is “grateful that Fox let him out early so he could take the job.” Benetti said, “NBC’s level of care for TV sports is obvious at every turn.” After baseball season, though, he is not ”sure what he’ll call for NBC.” He signed to “work year-round, also calling football and basketball, but what that entails is still being determined” (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 6/4).
LIGHTNING IN A BOTTLE: In Boston, Dan Shaughnessy noted “Lightning in a Bottle” is a documentary five years in the making by UMass alums Brad Davidson and Mike Corey. They have got interviews from Basketball HOFers Julius Erving and John Calipari, and UMass legend Marcus Camby. It is “all about the golden era of UMass basketball,” which resulted in a No. 1 ranking (35-2) and a Final Four in 1996, when UMass lost to champion Kentucky (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/5).
