Indiana Univ. football has seen “across-the-board surges in ticket sales ahead of the coming season,” which has “encouraged the department to expand its burgeoning student section this fall,” according to Zach Osterman of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. Last year marked the first time IU’s athletic department intentionally capped student ticket sales, setting its total at roughly 11,000 and selling out its entire allotment. This year, Indiana has “already sold 11,000 season tickets just to returning students.” The Hoosiers are coming off an undefeated season and a national championship. A department spokesperson said that the Hoosiers “expect to sell between 4,000 and 5,000 more tickets to new students.” That is “close to 30% of the single-bowl stadium.” It “compares favorably” to student sections at “football-centric schools like Alabama and Georgia.” This offseason, Indiana’s ticket office has registered a 93% season-ticket renewal rate, 9,000-plus new season ticket sales, across roughly 3,000 new accounts and 30,000-plus total public season tickets sold. The department also “expects to sell out every one of its eight home games this fall” (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 6/24).
