The Bills are “coming around to the idea of putting something more significant” in the space of the demolished Highmark Stadium, including the “possibility of mixed-use development,” according to Michael Petro of the BUFFALO NEWS. The possible development would be “on the east side of Abbott Road, where the team’s field house, administrative building and team store will remain.” Among the options the Bills are considering for the site include “stores and dining, open space for events and maybe even an entertainment-focused venue.” It could also “open the door to the Bills bringing an attraction, on a smaller scale, like Titletown in Green Bay.” There has also been past discussion about “creating a Bills village or another type of destination -- and possibly a pedestrian bridge for fans to use to cross to the new stadium.” Whatever happens around the new Highmark Stadium is “critical for efforts to turn the stadium into a broader attraction for tourists and residents, something that has been a focal point for many teams when they build new stadiums.” The Bills have realized that “not doing so would probably be a waste of valuable property and an opportunity to spread the Bills brand.” Bills President of Business Operations Pete Guelli said that if the team is “going to bring the NFL draft to Buffalo in 2029 or 2030,” they “need more attractions and places to stay than what is currently in the area” (BUFFALO NEWS, 7/7).
