FIFA World Cup 2026 N.Y./N.J. Host Committee CEO Alex Lasry said that he expects the organization to “break even” from the soccer tournament. While appearing on Semafor’s “Compound Interest,” Lasry said, “Our job is not to make $20, $30 million. We are not a for-profit institution. I can run the operation at a bit of a loss so long as the host committee is breaking even.” Lasry noted the committee “haven’t really had any real issues” based on his dealings with FIFA. Lasry: “We’ve said, ‘Hey, we’ve got a big partner here. How do we make sure that we can get this done?’” Lasry added they are the only host city “that got into double-digit sponsors, and we actually fulfilled our entire allotment of 20. Because we were two regions, we got 20 partners.” He said, “Every other host city got 10 ... So we were able to get really creative.” Lasry: “This is the biggest sporting event in the world. It’s international. One of the things that we really pitched our partners on was you’re getting a global marketing deal locally, and that’s the big thing” (“Compound Interest,” Semafor, 7/7).
