Netflix, Riot Games announce new animated series

Netflix and Riot Games have announced plans to bring a new animated series to the platform this fall, in what will be the first TV show in the video game company’s history. The series, called “Arcane,” was originally announced in late ’19 by Riot and at the time was supposed to come out in ’20. No distribution partner was revealed originally, and it appears the project was delayed by the pandemic. But Riot has now announced Netflix as its distribution partner and confirmed that the series is set to debut later this year. Riot developed and produced the series alongside Fortiche Productions. The plot is about the origins of two League of Legends characters, set in the fictional land of Piltover. Netflix Dir of Original Animation Dominique Bazay and Riot Games Global President of Entertainment Shauna Spenley helped set up the deal.
