Ron Burkle and the ownership group of the planned NWSL Sacramento expansion team appear to "have enough support" from the league’s BOG to "approve a change to its territory rights" from Sacramento to San Diego, according to sources. The vote has yet to take place, but sources said that "approval of the move is expected." The team "still plans to start play" in '22. The San Diego plan "would see the team play" at the Univ. of San Diego's 6,000-person Torero Stadium. However, sources indicated that there remains "hesitation around the current version of the plan." Former USWNT coach Jill Ellis has "stayed on despite Burkle’s exit from a planned Sacramento MLS expansion team" (THEATHLETIC.com, 5/6).
