LZ Granderson's “Life Out Loud” podcast took on LGBTQ issues within the world of pro sports with former NBAer Jason Collins, the first active NBA player to come out, former NFLer Keyshawn Johnson and outgoing Warriors President & COO Rick Welts joined. Welts, on why more male team athletes maybe have not come out: “More than being afraid of what my teammates might think or even maybe what the economic impact might be on my career, I don’t want to be a disruptive force (to my team).”

THE OLD COLLEGE TRY: “The North Shore Drive Sports Podcast” tackled the issue of how the new NIL rules could impact student-athletes at Penn State and Pitt. Co-host Nubyjas Wilborn noted Penn State QB Sean Clifford is selling licensed shirts: “What’s the market for a Sean Clifford T-shirt? ... If Sean Clifford wants to sell some T-shirts, he better throw some touchdowns.”

LEARNING A NEW POSITION: Podcast producer Kareem Maddox posted up on “My New Favorite Olympian” to discuss leaving his job at Spotify to attempt to qualify for the U.S. 3-on-3 basketball team: “Any risk I’ve taken has always been really calculated.” Maddox: “I didn’t necessarily want to quit … but at a certain point you’ve just got to commit and dedicate.”
