The Hawks have named NBA league exec Joel Browning Exec VP & CFO. Browning will oversee the accounting, finance, information technology and analytics departments for both the Hawks and State Farm Arena. He will report directly to Hawks CEO Steve Koonin beginning in mid-September. Browning joins the Hawks from the NBA where he was VP/Team Marketing & Business Operations since '16.
Prior to his job with the league, Browning was VP/Business Operations & Strategy for the Pistons. He previously also was a banking analyst for JPMorgan and a VP for Bergman Group, an L.A.-based family investment office. Browning comes to the Hawks after Thad Sheely resigned this week as COO. The team in recent years did not have a CFO title. No search firm was used in the hire.
