The Commanders' FedExField lease expires in '26, and team President Jason Wright this morning confirmed the team "will be in a new venue" by '27. Wright: "That's about the only timeline I can give." Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said last month his state will "fight" to keep the team inside his borders. DC Mayor Muriel Bowser in a statement this morning also said she wanted the team "right here in DC." The Commanders' rebranding "emphasized the team's desire to be more inclusive of the community and embrace its roots, and Wright said the new stadium will share those aims." Wright: "This is first and foremost an economic development project. It's something that's going to drive economic and social outcomes for the next 30 years in this area. And we take it that seriously" (RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH, 2/2).
