MLB has hired Omar Minaya to serve as a consultant for amateur scouting. Minaya, 63, will advise MLB’s Baseball Operations Department regarding both domestic and international scouting initiatives. Minaya began his career as a scout with the Rangers in '84 and was named Mets Assistant GM in '97 before becoming the first Latino GM in MLB history when he joined the Expos in '02. Minaya was later hired as the Mets GM in '05, a role he held until '10. He worked for the Padres as Senior VP/Baseball Operations from '11-14. In recent years, Minaya held advisory roles at the MLBPA and Mets.
