The next phase of Liverpool’s stadium redevelopment is "set to get the go-ahead with a decision due on the planning application for a new Anfield Road stand." Proposals to add an extra 7,000 seats were "put on hold in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic last year" but the matter will now be considered by Liverpool City Council’s planning committee next Tuesday (London INDEPENDENT, 6/8). The club is "hopeful of extending their total capacity by a further 7,000 to 61,000" at a cost of an estimated £60M ($85M). And a new-look Anfield could play host to several other events outside of the EPL calendar "such as American and Gaelic football and other non-team sports." It raises the potential prospect "of Anfield becoming a venue for an NFL fixture or a big boxing showdown at some stage during the summer months" (LIVERPOOL ECHO, 6/8).
