England-France WC quarterfinal draws big ratings

England’s loss to France on Saturday in the World Cup quarterfinals was the "most-viewed" U.K. TV broadcast of the year so far, peaking with 21.3M viewers on ITV1. The game, which England lost 2-1 following England F Harry Kane’s "dramatic late missed penalty," was watched by an average audience of 15 million. Across linear channel ITV1 and VoD player ITVX, the net said that the game was watched by a peak audience of 23 million. The rating for Saturday's loss just topped England’s round of 16 win over Senegal, which drew an average audience of 13.4 million (DEADLINE, 12/12).

In France, TF1 secured 17.72 million viewers, an audience share of 62.8%, for Les Bleus' victory, an increase from the audience of 14.32 million for France-Poland in the round of 16 (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 12/12).
