     In Atlanta, Prentis Rogers writes that despite all the
"splendid variety" of sports programming this weekend, "this will
still be considered Derby weekend."  However, the Kentucky Derby
has not pulled down a double-digit rating since '90 (ATLANTA
CONSTITUTION, 5/5)....In a "major setback" to Primestar Partners,
a direct broadcast satellite service owned by cable operators,
such as TCI and Time Warner, the FCC has "effectively denied the
company access" the 18-inch satellite market.  Its contractor,
Advanced Communications, a technology company based in Arlington,
VA, was turned down by the FCC for a second four-year extension
to build, launch and initiate a high-powered digital-broadcast
system.  Primestar's service now is available only to consumers
owning 36-inch dishes (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 5/5)....Sports

Show" takes a "critical look" at one of pay-per-view's "violence-
oriented, blood-dripping, kid-targeted big sellers -- the
Ultimate Fighting Championships" (Phil Mushnick, N.Y. POST,
5/5)....In DC, WFTY and Abe Pollin's Bullets and Capitals have
reached an agreement in principal for the station to carry 30
Bullets and Caps road games next season, all produced by HTS
(WASHINGTON POST, 5/5).
