Minnesota Businessman Hopes To Take Over NWSL FC K.C. By Start Of Season

Minnesota-based North Central Equity CEO Elam Baer yesterday said that he is still in the process of buying the NWSL FC K.C. and he “expects a resolution before the start” of the ‘17 season, according to Sam McDowell of the K.C. STAR. Baer again said that he will “keep the team” in K.C. The club currently is owned by Chris Likens; his two sons, Greg and Brad; and Brian Budzinski. Baer said that he has been “provided an indication that the NWSL team owners have met and approved the FCKC sale, but the transition is a ‘several monthlong process, and technically, we do not yet own this team.’” McDowell notes Baer has “already rented office space” in K.C. and has “hired people to examine and fill current jobs” within the FC K.C. offices. FC K.C. “shares most of its staff” with the Major Arena Soccer League K.C. Comets, “complicating the front-office changeover.” Baer said that some employees would “retain their positions” with FC K.C. but others have “requested to stay with the Comets” (K.C. STAR, 1/4).
