Lions President Rod Wood in a letter to season-ticket holders this week announced an additional $100M in Ford Field upgrades by team ownership, which will "include new video boards and additional sound system upgrades," according to Justin Rogers of the DETROIT NEWS. The current video boards, at 27x96 feet, are "considered small and outdated," given larger HD boards that have been installed by a number of other teams (DETROIT NEWS, 2/3). In Detroit, Dave Birkett notes the Lions "upgraded their sound system with four hanging clusters of large speakers last season, and are set to finish the upgrades this off-season." Ford Field still has the "same video boards from when the building opened" in '02, and plans to replace them "have long been in the works." Along with new speakers and wireless enhancements, the Lions "added a new exterior lighting system to Ford Field among other projects last year" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 2/3).
