Fenway Park will hold a marathon "inside its confines" on Sept. 15, marking a first "not only for Fenway but for any professional sports team's stadium," according to Dan Shulman of the BOSTON GLOBE. The Fenway Marathon will be certified by USA Track & Field, and a "trial run will be held in the summer to measure the route." It will take "approximately 112 laps around the warning track" to complete the race, which is "being managed by DMSE Sports and will benefit the Red Sox Charitable Foundation." The field "will be limited to 50 participants" and registration is on a "first-come, first serve basis." The field currently is half full. There is "no registration fee, but runners are required to raise a minimum of $5,000 to benefit" the foundation. Boston Marathon Race Dir Dave McGillivray, who is organizing the new race, "first approached the Red Sox about the concept" in '04 (BOSTON GLOBE, 5/27).
