Richardson's Son Says NFL Panthers Have Plan In Place To Sell Team After Father's Death

Mark Richardson, the son of NFL Panthers Owner Jerry Richardson, said that a "plan is in place" to sell the franchise when his father passes away, according to Lake Morris of the Anderson INDEPENDENT MAIL. Mark Richardson said, "A timeline is in place." He "declined to describe the plan or discuss the likelihood that the team would remain in Charlotte." Richardson, who resigned as Panthers President in '09, reiterated that a sale is "contingent on the death of his father" (Anderson INDEPENDENT MAIL, 10/28). WSPA-CBS' Pete Yanity noted Jerry Richardson is "approaching age 80, although he's not known to have any current grave health issues." Richardson in '09 underwent a heart transplant. A change in ownership "would impact more than just what happens with the team in Charlotte." The team has held training camp since its inaugural year in '95 at Wofford College, Richardson's alma mater (WSPA.com, 10/27).
