Chicago Tribune, N.Y. Daily News See Layoffs Impact Sports Department

The White Sox and Blackhawks are without a full-time Chicago Tribune reporter "assigned to travel with them" following the "latest wave of editorial job cuts" at the paper, according to Chicago-based media reporter Robert Feder. The layoffs included writes Chris Kuc and Paul Skrbina ( ROBERTFEDER.com, 3/22 ). In N.Y., Keith Kelly noted there "were 21 people" recently laid off by the N.Y. Daily News. Sources said that Robert Quinn, who wrote an "irreverent column about sports betting" was among the cuts. The paper also recently "lost Gary Myers ," who had been with the paper "nearly three decades" ( N.Y. POST, 3/23 ). Meanwhile, FanRag Sports this week "cut ties with a large number of writers, most of whom appear to have been part-timers or freelancers." Several of the laid-off staffers "tweeted that the cuts take effect March 31" ( AWFULANNOUNCING.com, 3/21 ).
