Former Dodgers Owner Frank McCourt, who also owns the L.A. Marathon, is "donating the organization that runs the marathon and affiliated events" to a Boston-based family foundation overseen by a cousin, Brian McCourt, according to Jon Chesto of the BOSTON GLOBE. The McCourts are "converting the for-profit marathon business to a nonprofit." Frank McCourt said that he "always intended to make the marathon a nonprofit enterprise." However, he "waited until the operation was financially self-sustainable." He said that day is "finally here." Brian McCourt "envisions a platform that helps other social entrepreneurs create their own events, for their own personal causes" (BOSTON GLOBE, 5/11).
