British sailing team Ineos Team UK is leveraging Amazon Web Services’ cloud computing platform to run as many as 1,200 fluid dynamics simulations per day as it optimizes its boat for the 2021 America’s Cup.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team has spent less time on the water than usual, meaning our simulation work with AWS has become more important than ever,” Ben Ainslie, Ineos Team UK skipper, said in a press release. “Working with AWS for the first time this year has given us access to more and faster computational resources, which has proven crucial in developing the fastest race boat possible.”
This year’s America’s Cup was originally scheduled to begin in Italy in April, but was cancelled due to COVID-19. The race is now scheduled to take place next year from March to 21 off the coast of Auckland in New Zealand.
