Eight-Man Football: NFL Advisory Committee Members Revealed

Three HOF players and four former team execs are part of the NFL’s “outside advisory committee that will assist Commissioner Roger Goodell on issues relating to COVID-19” during the ’20 season, according to a source cited by Mike Florio of PRO FOOTBALL TALK. The members are Pro Football HOFers Champ Bailey, Isaac Bruce, Troy Polamalu and Bill Polian, former execs Charley Casserly, Tom Coughlin and Rick Smith, and former coach Marvin Lewis. The league filled the committee with people “not currently connected to the NFL, in order to avoid the obvious conflicts of interest that would apply to members of the Competition Committee.” It is “unclear whether objective standards will apply to the decisions that will be made, or whether each case will be assessed based on its own facts and circumstances” (NBCSPORTS.com, 8/20).
