Tigers, Wings Re-Up With Flagship WXYT-FM In Multiyear Deal

The Tigers and Red Wings will remain on WXYT-FM for the "foreseeable future, thanks to a new multi-year radio broadcast partnership extension" that will see it remain the "flagship station of both teams, airing regular season and postseason games," according to Evan Petzold of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. Tigers and Red Wings games have appeared on the station since '01, and the Pistons joined in '17, "coinciding with their move to downtown Detroit." The Pistons "were not part of the extension" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 12/9). In Detroit, Tony Paul notes the deal was "somewhat of a formality," as WXYT is the "only full-time sports-talk station in Metro Detroit." Despite "some overtures in past years," news-talk outlet WJR-AM "wasn't a major player in negotiations this time around" (DETROIT NEWS, 12/9).
