S.F. has a "rich sports history and plenty of cultural landmarks that the designers could have tapped into" for the Giants City Connect uniforms, according to Wes Goldberg of the San Jose MERCURY NEWS. The City Connect jersey is "not only missing one of the Giants’ primary colors, black, but also features a 'G' for Giants instead of the city’s initials." The “G” is "found nowhere in the franchise’s history." Goldberg: "This city deserves ... more creativity" (San Jose MERCURY NEWS, 7/7).
NOT THE WORST: In S.F., Peter Hartlaub writes the City Connect uniforms "are indeed atrocious," but despite a "negative reaction in the Bay Area, this is nowhere near a historical low." The "worst uniform" in Giants history, "worn just once, came in 1999 on 'Turn Ahead the Clock Night.'" The Giants and more than a dozen other teams wore "futuristic fashion, attempting to represent what uniforms might look like in the year 2021" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 7/7).
