Angel City FC adds Klarna as club's latest founding-level sponsor

Expansion NWSL club Angel City FC won’t play its first game until next spring, but the team just added an eighth founding-level sponsor in Klarna, a Swedish fintech company which provides a variety of e-commerce services, especially buy now/pay later accounts. “Fintech has exploded, e-commerce was on fire during the lockdowns and you have a lot those of brands looking to stand out,” said Angel City Head of Revenue Jess Smith. With rights in the “flexible payment/flexible spending” category, Klarna gets traditional electronic and on-site media, along with social/digital assets. It’s the first sports sponsorship for Klarna, which operates in 17 countries, has more than 4,000 employees and revenues of $1.1B in '20, and clients including Nike and Macy’s. Like all Angel City sponsors, 10% is tithed to charitable causes; in this case, Klarna has pledged to create green spaces in and around L.A. and its services will be integrated within Angel City’s online store.
