Sources: Rob Walton seen as likely winner in bid for Broncos

Bids in the Broncos sale are due by 5:00pm ET today, and Walmart heir Rob Walton "will win the bidding" for the team "at about $4.5 billion," according to banking sources cited by Mike Ozanian of FORBES. Walton’s ownership team also "includes his daughter Carrie and her husband, Greg Penner." The winning bid is "expected to be announced as early as this month." The other groups "reportedly still in the hunt for the Broncos are led by" Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment Founder Josh Harris, Clearlake Capital co-Owner Jose Feliciano and United Wholesale Mortgage CEO Mat Ishbia. None of the other groups "come close to Walton’s wealth." One banker said that the Broncos "are Walton’s if he wants them" (FORBES.com, 6/6). Sources told SBJ's Ben Fischer that as of this morning, no bids had officially been submitted (SBJ). NBCSPORTS.com's Peter King listed Walton as his 5th-most influential figure in the NFL for '22 (6/6).
