The USA Gymnastics trials at St. Louis' Dome at America’s Center drew a Sunday crowd of 20,815 -- a "record for a U.S. Olympic Team Trials session" -- and the four-day crowd estimate "swelled to a total of nearly 65,000." Athletes' friends and family "can’t go to Tokyo to show their support" amid a ban on international fans. That fact "made these four days in St. Louis one special sendoff." The event's success "should help" local officials' "case to secure the next big thing," specifically the '24 U.S. Olympic swimming & diving trials. St. Louis is "one of the four finalists" along with Indianapolis, Minneapolis and Omaha (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 6/28).
