The BOSTON GLOBE goes with, "Kristen LaCount makes history of her own as The Country Club’s first female general manager." Founded in 1882, the Brookline, Mass. course, which will host next week's U.S. Open, did not admit women as full members until 1989, but "gendered spaces no longer exist: no men’s grille, no limiting women to morning rounds of golf." LaCount said the club having a woman as GM "speaks volumes that (women) stand on their own as members." Club President Lyman Bullard said, “She was the best person for the job. We weren’t trying to make history but we did.” On June 16, some 156 golfers from around the world "will converge on Brookline," and "tens of thousands of spectators will follow them." LaCount will be "under as much pressure as the golfers."
