The PGA Tour this morning said the WGC-HSBC Champions scheduled for this fall in China would not be played due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions in China. The Tour said the decision was made in conjunction with the China Golf Association. As a result, the opposite field Butterfield Bermuda Championship will see an elevated purse of $6.5M and full FedExCup points awarded. The HSBC Champions event has not been held in China since before the pandemic, and the cancellation this year means only one WGC event -- the Dell Match Play -- remains on the PGA Tour calendar.
Meanwhile, the LPGA this morning also announced the cancellation of the Buick LPGA Shanghai, which was scheduled for Oct. 13-16, due to Covid restrictions (SBJ).
