Forty Under 40: What’s the best sporting event you’ve attended?

We asked each of the Forty Under 40:

What’s the best sporting event you’ve attended?

Ken Babby: Siting alongside my father in September 1995 watching Cal Ripken Jr. break Lou Gehrig’s consecutive-game streak at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Ripken epitomized everything that was right about sports, hard work and life — during a time when baseball and our country needed it most.

Kim Beauvais:

Junior Spartans Hockey Team #4 vs. Team #1: My son played a nail-biter of a game! Best game I have ever been to. (Close second: Final Four in 2014.)

Yu-Han Chang: My kids’ YMCA games.

Aaron Cohen: The opening ceremony of an Olympic Games.

Russ D’Souza: I saw Mayweather vs. Pacquiao in May. The MGM was electric in the buildup to the fight. I’ve never felt that energy at a live event. Of course, the fight didn’t live up to the hype, but it’ll forever serve as a reminder about why being there is totally different than watching on TV.

Shannon Dan: The Masters.

Adam Davis: The “Jeter play” in Oakland (2001 ALDS Game 3, New York Yankees vs. Oakland A’s).

Kevin Demoff: Dartmouth ending Penn’s 48-game Ivy League basketball winning streak (1996).

Anthony DiCosmo: Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Sports Awards — a shameless plug.

Hymie Elhai: Atlanta Braves vs. New York Mets, Sept. 21, 2001. First New York public event after 9/11; Mets won 3-2 after Mike Piazza’s home run.

Jaime Faulkner: 2015 NLDS, Game 4: The game when the Cubs clinched against the Cardinals.

Todd Fischer: The 2011 Carrier Classic on the flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson.

David Greenspan: New England Patriots’ 2015 home opener after Tom Brady’s suspension was vacated.

Al Guido: Too hard to pick one: 49ers vs. Falcons (last game at The Stick, in 2013); 2001 NBA Eastern Conference Final, Game 7, Sixers vs. Bucks (Love A.I.).

Christopher Halpin: The Masters: great environment, so much history in each hole, crowd is on its best behavior, no phones, exceptional fan service. (And, $3.50 for a sandwich and a beer?)

Rob Higgins: That’s like asking which is my favorite kid. I’ll say the College Football Playoff National Championship Game that we’re hosting in January.

Jamie Horowitz: 2004 Yankees/Red Sox ALCS.

Amy Huchthausen: 2015 Women’s World Cup semifinal between the U.S. and Germany in Montreal.

Charlie Hussey: Outside of SEC events: The Masters.

Zaileen Janmohamed: Vancouver Olympics. Being in my home city, walking into opening ceremony, there may have been some tears.

Brian Kopp: 2015 NLDS Game 4: St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs. I was lucky enough to bring my son to see the Cubs’ first postseason series victory ever at Wrigley Field. (That’s right: First ever!) After many years of disappointment, that win was a special one for all Cubs fans.

A Giant event to remember: Super Bowl XLVI

Patrick Kraft:

Temple vs. Penn State, Sept. 5, 2015: Temple 27, PSU 10. (Temple hadn’t beaten Penn State since 1941.)

Geoff Lester: 2000 BCS National Championship (featuring alma mater Virginia Tech).

Chris Marinak: 2008 World Series (first with my dad).

Kevin McSherry: Hands down, it was Super Bowl XLVI: Giants over the Patriots. I’m a big Giants fan and I took my dad and younger brother.

Bill Mulvihill: Watching the University of Cincinnati in the 1992 Final Four against the Fab Five.

Colin Neville: UFC 153 in Rio de Janeiro. The main event featured Brazilian legend Anderson Silva, and the atmosphere was unlike anything I had ever seen at a live sports event.

Troup Parkinson: The Masters.

Dana Rosenberg: New York Mets postseason last year. My husband is a diehard Mets fan.

Richard Rubano: 2003 ALCS, Game 7. There are a hundred things I’ll never forget about that game: Moose’s relief appearance, Jorge’s game tying double, Mariano’s three shut out innings, Aaron Boone’s walk-off. But the thing I’ll remember the most is how it felt to be inside the stadium that night.

Paul Saville: London 2012 Olympics.

Must see event: Portland Timbers vs. Seattle Sounders

Connor Schell:

Game 5 of the 2015 World Series (Royals win!).

Chris Schlosser: Portland Timbers vs. Seattle Sounders FC.

Russell Silvers: 2014 Stanley Cup Final, Game 6: Los Angeles Kings vs. New York Rangers. Kings won in double OT, raising their second Stanley Cup in three years.

Julie Sobieski: Kentucky Derby.

Ryan Tollner: Super Bowl XLIII with (client) Ben Roethlisberger’s game-winning drive.

David Weiss: 1999 ALCS Game 3: Pedro vs. Clemens, with the most-engaged Fenway crowd I’ve ever seen.

Amy Yakola: College Football Playoff National Championship Game (including the most-recent one, with alma mater Clemson).

Mike Zavodsky: Super Bowl XXV (although technically before my “time” in the industry).

Tim Zulawski: Atlanta Falcons vs. Seattle divisional playoff game in January 2013. (Falcons won 30-28.)
