Further credit due for “Madness” effort

To the Editor:

While I truly enjoyed your Closing Shot “Forty Years of Madness”  article in the March 28 issue, I regret it was too tightly focused on my participation with the CBS Sports team that negotiated the agreement to move the television coverage of the Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament from NBC to CBS.

how-you-see-it

We were led by Van Gordon Sauter, president of CBS Sports, and our “band of brothers” also included Carl Lindemann (former president of NBC Sports), Kevin O’Malley and Terry O’Neil. Later, I was delegated to spend a full week in Kansas City negotiating the actual terms of the written agreement with Walter Byers and his confederates, but it was the five of us who prepared for and did the job at the O’Hare Hilton.

Respectfully,
