The good, the bad and the ugly

Three takeaways from March Madness:

  • College leaders need to stop using their marquee events as a platform to do their politicking. The NCAA has 11 months out of the year to lobby Congress for NIL legislation. Leave March and its madness alone. The same can be said for the College Football Playoff. Why is it necessary to determine playoff expansion during the actual championship game weekend? Let the games take center stage when a champion is being crowned.
  • Jim Nantz should be commended for his decision to step away from college basketball after this Final Four. It was a great run, and by the same token, it’s time for a new voice, which Ian Eagle will provide.
  • While we’re making changes to how the tournament is broadcast, the experiment of putting NBA analysts on college basketball’s biggest stage needs to end. Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson are fantastic doing “Inside the NBA.” The Final Four is not “Inside the NBA.”
