NBA lays off 'dozens' of employees

The NBA laid off “dozens’’ of employees today as the league places more of an emphasis on its burgeoning areas of growth, such as its digital and international business, reports SBJ's Tom Friend.

Confirmed by NBA Chief Communications Officer, Mike Bass, an undisclosed number of people were informed of the cuts during the day. Sources close to the situation said “dozens’’ of longtime and short-term employees were among the layoffs.

Sources added that the layoffs were from departments not focused on revenue generation -- more from “the service parts” of the organization -- and that, as of now, they do not expect the league to eliminate any other positions.
