Digitizing tradition: What teams and leagues can learn from esports

The rise of esports has "largely been viewed as a threat to the traditional sports industry," as esports "engages a younger and more global audience, who respond to the higher levels of engagement offered to them compared to traditional sports." 

But Lars Rensing, CEO & co-founder of enterprise blockchain services provider Protokol, writes that traditional sports teams "don’t have to feel threatened by esports, and instead can choose to adapt and learn from the younger industry to improve engagement with fans." Rensing: "If 2020 has taught us anything, though, it’s that there are a number of creative and innovative ways for fans to get involved with their teams, without the need to be in a stadium or watching a live game."
