Playfly closes on suite of Fox Sports assets

Playfly Sports has closed on its acquisition of three Fox Sports businesses: Home Team Sports, Fox College Sports Properties and Impression Sports, reports SBJ's Michael Smith. The deal, first reported by SBJ on Feb. 15, marks the retirement of longtime HTS President Kyle Sherman, who will transition into an advisory role with Playfly Founder & CEO Michael Schreiber. Craig Sloan will become HTS President. No financial details were disclosed.

Schreiber said HTS, the ad sales agency arm of Fox Sports, provides possibly the most upside in the deal. Fox used HTS to sell ads primarily across RSNs as a means of creating a national platform for brands. The HTS model was especially valuable for Fox until it sold its 21 RSNs to Disney in 2019. Those networks were eventually acquired by Sinclair Broadcast Group, one of the two largest investors in Playfly along with Baltimore-based Access Holdings
