David Carlock already was embedded in the mixed-use real estate world when he founded Machete Group in 2007 after serving as vice president of business development for Hard Rock Café International and leading The Walt Disney Company’s ESPN Zone restaurant concept rollout. Since then, Houston-based Machete has amassed a diverse beyond-the-venue portfolio including Barclays Center, Chase Center, Golden 1 Center and TQL Stadium. The company is overseeing the minor league ballpark development in downtown Richmond, Va., which will anchor a $2.44 billion, 67-acre redevelopment. Machete is part of the Orlando Magic’s Kia Center neighborhood expansion, and is a member of the Westfield Promenade 2035 team redeveloping a Stan Kroenke-owned shopping mall site in the Woodland Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, where the Los Angeles Rams practice facility opens this month. — D.B.
