Frisco approves another $9.2M for Toyota Stadium renovation

Frisco City Council April 21 unanimously allocated an extra $9.2M "toward the renovation of Toyota Stadium.” FC Dallas

The city of Frisco, Texas, has “approved additional funding toward the renovation of Toyota Stadium,” according to Aayush Gupta of the DALLAS BUSINESS JOURNAL. Frisco City Council April 21 unanimously allocated an extra $9.2M for “upgrades to the stadium’s seating bowl and wi-fi system.” The nearly $200M upgrade kicked off last spring and “additional work needed for the seating bowl areas was discovered during the construction process.” It is the latest step as FC Dallas owner Hunt Sports Group “moves forward with its plans to turn the stadium into a marquee venue for professional soccer and other events.” The stadium will serve as the training base for the Swedish national team, and although the first phase of renovations at Toyota Stadium will “not be completed before kickoff of the World Cup in June, construction is not expected to affect Sweden’s experience.” Renovations of the 20-year-old stadium will result in “more seating and overhead shading, as well as new clubs, suites and other upgraded amenities.” FC Dallas President Dan Hunt during a World Cup press conference in March said that demolition on the west side of the stadium is “expected to begin in June, while the renovated east side is scheduled to reopen by Sept. 1.” The stadium renovations are designed by HKS Architects, with construction led by Moss & Associates LLC (DALLAS BUSINESS JOURNAL, 4/30).
