Veteran MLBPA agent Nelson Montes de Oca has joined Dallas-based baseball agency Ballengee Group. Montes de Oca brings with him several clients, including Giants 1B Rafael Devers, Blue Jays DH Eloy Jiménez and Athletics P Luis Severino, to add to the agency’s 50-plus MLB clients. He will be based out of Tampa and report to Ballengee’s president of baseball operations, Scott Lonergan.

Montes de Oca, who has nearly 15 years of industry experience, joins the agency after working at Klutch Baseball, where he was vice president of its Latin America division following the UTA-backed agency’s acquisition of Rep 1 Baseball in 2023. Montes de Oca is perhaps most notable in recent years for negotiating Devers’ 11-year, $300M deal with the Red Sox, also in 2023.

Ballengee was founded in 2014 by oil company entrepreneur James Ballengee and his wife, Alex Ballengee. On top of talent representation, the agency also handles contract negotiations, marketing, branding, content creation, NIL and post-career support for its clients. Ballengee also represents other players like Royals P Seth Lugo, Blue Jays 2B Ernie Clement, Cardinals 1B Alec Burleson, Cubs P Daniel Palencia, Rays 1B Jonathan Aranda and Twins P Bailey Ober.
