The WNBA is not “committed to adding America-themed patches to 2026 All-Star Game jerseys,” but the league did not “rule out the idea, either,” according to Callie Fin of USA TODAY. A report from Sportico published on Thursday said that the league “plans to have its biggest stars wear USA 250 patches during this year’s All-Star Game.” Fin noted in January, it was announced “most major North American sports leagues had agreed to wear patches” commemorating the U.S.’s 250th birthday this year. America250 is a nonprofit created by Congress to oversee commemoration of the U.S.’s founding in 1776. The WNBA was among the major pro sports organizations “not listed in the original news release.” Aces F Brianna Turner, treasurer of the WNBA player’s association, posted via social media on Thursday night: “Whoever called for the WNBA all star uniforms to have the USA 250 patch should have thought that through considering no WNBA players would have been free 250 years ago” (USA TODAY, 6/5).
