Franchise Notes

In L.A., Mirjam Swanson noted the Dodgers have a new historical exhibit at Dodger Stadium that honors late former MLBers Glenn Burke and Billy Bean, the first and second pro baseball players to come out as gay. It is “not a fleeting mention on Pride night, it’s a permanent record.” Bean’s husband Greg Baker said, “I want to thank the Dodgers organization. It’s brave of them in this day and age to spotlight someone in our community when other organizations are trying to erase us” (L.A. TIMES, 6/7).

NOT A REAL CHANCE: In Hartford, Gregory Freeborn wrote when the Sun leave for Houston after the 2026 season, “many people will say Hartford had its chance,” but “it didn’t.” People “spent a year arguing about whether Hartford could support a WNBA team,” but “never conducted a meaningful test.” The two games played in Hartford are “not a test.” More than 10,000 fans packed PeoplesBank Arena on May 30 for the Sun’s first game in Hartford in 23 years. The team will return for one final game on July 2. Freeborn: “How can anyone fairly evaluate Hartford’s viability based on two isolated events?” (HARTFORD COURANT, 6/7).

SEAT FOR SALE: In Akron, Dan Kadar reported the courtside seat singer Taylor Swift occupied during Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Cavaliers and Knicks “has been listed for sale” through the online auction site The Realest. As of Monday, it was up to $6,000. The seat sat in by Chiefs TE Travis Kelce is also up for sale and was at $525. Chairs used by actor Ben Stiller and media personality Kylie Jenner are also available on the site (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 6/7).
