World Cup Marketing Notes: Mamdani releases N.Y.-inspired soccer jerseys

GQ.com’s Yang-Yi Goh wrote N.Y. Mayor Zohran Mamdani is “dropping a trio of affordable NYC-inspired soccer jerseys.” The jerseys were designed by artist Arsh Raziuddin and crafted “in partnership with Mazzi Sports,” a family-owned apparel studio in Brooklyn, and feature “the same retro graphic style as the city’s charming World Cup campaign.” The limited run of 1,500 -- 500 of each colorway -- was “entirely produced by hand at Mazzi’s Bedford-Stuyvesant factory.” The $50 shirts were scheduled to be sold in-person on Friday at the N.Y. City Store (GQ.com, 6/11).

COMMERCIAL CREATIVE: USA TODAY’s Victoria Hernandez notes USMNT F Timothy Weah served as the creative director for Electrolit’s World Cup campaign called “Made For This.” There is a “commercial that will air and a photo campaign that will be featured in major cities” where the tournament will be played. The TV spot “shows a day in the life of the soccer player in his native New York City.” Some of the actors in the visual “are his actual friends that he grew up with” (USA TODAY, 6/12).
