Gotham FC announced earlier this month that it will create a $35 million training facility in New Jersey, becoming the latest women’s sports team to announce purpose-built infrastructure.
By my count, that’s more than two dozen venues built or planned for NWSL or WNBA teams in recent years, with the vast majority being training facilities.
Yael Averbuch West, head of soccer operations for Gotham FC, said on The Athletic’s “Full Time” podcast that the thing she is most looking forward to in the facility is having access to their own practice fields.
Women’s sports infrastructure becoming table stakes for these pro teams, we love to see it.
