Arizona State Univ. AD Graham Rossini said that “work is underway at a couple of venues, with some work still in the planning stages at others,” according to Michelle Gardner of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. The “most notable renovations are coming at Desert Financial Arena,” with a multiyear $100M project at the 52-year-old venue having begun in May. Rossini said that the “second phase of construction will begin in October,” meaning the renovation will “run concurrently with teams during their seasons.” Rossini “expects to announce the ‘full scope of the project’ and share renderings around that time.” He said that the seating capacity -- currently listed at 14,000 -- “would be reduced, but not by a significant amount.” The first phase, “expected to be done by Labor Day,” includes adding “wider premium seats, loge boxes and padded lower bowl chairs with cupholders.” Most of the work at Mountain America Stadium “has to do with the configuration of on-field suites.” Rossini added that work on ASU’s $55M indoor football facility is also “expected to break ground in the fall.” It will feature “78,000 square feet of practice fields and will be located in what is now a parking lot for the stadium” (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 7/15).
