Sales of the Australian Open’s most popular tickets -- “ground passes,” which give fans entry to Melbourne Park at the best price -- “will be capped for every day of the first week” of the Melbourne Grand Slam in 2027, according to Peter Rolfe of the Melbourne HERALD SUN. The move is “likely to spark a rush” for the fan favorite passes, which start at $49. It comes in the “wake of record crowds” of more than 1.3 million fans across three weeks of this year’s Australian Open. The number of ground passes to be sold was not made available. The move comes after some fans this year “complained about being unable to buy a ground pass on opening day of the tournament proper” (Melbourne HERALD SUN, 7/21).
