THE ATHLETIC’s Sabreena Merchant wrote the WNBA “will not be profiting off” the viral moment in which Fever G Sophie Cunningham pointed at Mercury F/G DeWanna Bonner, “nor will any WNBA licensees.” The union’s policy is “not to create any apparel that features a confrontation between members of the union.” However, individual players “can use their own likeness however they choose.” Therefore, Cunningham is “at liberty to produce shirts (or whatever paraphernalia) that depict her point,” so long as they “don’t include the WNBA or WNBPA logo” (THE ATHLETIC, 7/20).

NEW SPONSORS: In Seattle, Tim Booth noted the Mariners announced that “PEMCO Insurance is now the presenting sponsor of Mariners TV.” Along with the TV deal, the team also has “new signage behind home plate with the Microsoft Home Plate Club replacing the name of the previous Press Club.” It will “be hard to miss the letters” -- they are “larger than the ‘Welcome to T-Mobile Park’” sign attached to the suite level (SEATTLE TIMES, 7/17).
